New (old) cheap mountain bike

Finally got someone to respond to me on CL. Thanks for all the recommendations you guys gave me. Decided to start small and build up from here if I have any time. 2016 Trek Marlin 5. 29” wheels on a 17.5” frame. Guy said he has only ridden it a few times over the years. The condition of the grips and seat lead me to believe him. No dust in the nooks and crannies either. Need to grab a helmet and I’ll be gtg. Anyone have any experience with the Bontrager Quantum MIPS?

Bontrager, bell, giro, specialized, Troy lee, they all make great helmets. Definitely get a MIPS like you are looking at and make sure it’s the right size.

I ended up with a Smith Session with MIPS. Seemed to fit best and for some reason all of the other MIPS helmets I tried on felt loose. Maybe it’s just the models I tried on that were too wiggly and weird feeling.

Im thinking about getting a bike but I definitely will be looking to spend like 100-200 on a craigslist special. Currently undecided if I want to go the mountain bike or road bike route. With my budget its gonna be old, need some work, be heavy, and not particularly good. But it’d be real nice to bike around at home. Just completely cant decide if I want to road bike or do some casual trails. Probably best off with a cheap hard tail and just put road tires on it when I want to road bike with it. But then again it might not matter what I get at that price range...

I got  this guy for $275. $250-300 seems to be the sweet spot for modern, decent bikes. Hard part is finding one that isn’t stolen or thrashed.

ooo still on the original tires....i like those xr1s..they give off surprisingly little spray in moist conditions (obviously still gonna get a wet arse if you hit the puddles)...cant get em for love nor money here (well...i could import em..but then its just silly money)

anyhoo..cant help you with the brain lid..havent worn one for years...my knowledge is way out of date

That was how I ended up selling my girlfriend’s car too. Seems like offerup is now the new CL as far as good deals go. Also way fewer scams and spam thats for sure! Ill make sure to check that out.
